Recently, scientific research has shown that fish oil has properties that help reduce symptoms and inflammation of rheumatoid arthritis.

Flax seed

Flax is high in Omega 3 essential fatty acids. That’s good news for people who suffer from inflammatory disorders. Health experts, such as former Surgeon General C. Evertt Koop, recommend eating foods high in Omega 3’s for people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. It is the inflammation within the joints that cause so much of the pain associated with arthritis. Flax Seed is an essential fatty acid, meaning our bodies need to ingest it since our bodies can’t produce it. The January 1996 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported that the participants in a study that took flax oil daily reduced inflammatory responses by as much as 30%.

Glucosamine Sulphate

Glucosamine Sulphate has been scientifically proven to reduce joint discomfort, increase lubrication in joints, stimulate cartilage repair, preserve joint space and it has anti-inflammatory actions. Glucosamine Sulphate provides the raw material used by the body to make cartilage and connective tissue that, in turn, can help to provide cushioning and lubrication for the back joint. Glucosamine is a naturally occurring substance normally formed from glucose and found in high concentrations in joint structures. As we age, we lose some of the glucosamine and other substances in our cartilage. This can lead to the thinning of cartilage and the onset and progression of back problems.

White Willow Bark

People take white willow bark instead of aspirin because it does not appear to be as irritating to the stomach lining. It may be because the salicin found naturally in white willow bark is only converted to the acid form after it is absorbed by the stomach. Researchers have also suggested that white willow bark is more effective than aspirin because of other active compounds that are found in the bark but not the drug. Animal research at Cairo University compared a willow bark extract to ASA and found that a willow bark extract was as effective as aspirin in reducing inflammation, even though the salicin content was lower than an equivalent dose of ASA.

The use of white willow bark medicinally goes far back. Ancient Egyptians used white willow for inflammation. The Greek physician Hippocrates wrote about white willow's medicinal uses in 5th century B.C.

What research has been done on white willow bark?

In a German study, the effectiveness of a willow bark extract providing 240 mg of salicin a day was compared to placebo in a 2-week randomized controlled trial in 78 people with osteoarthritis. After two weeks, the willow bark patients' pain scores were reduced by 14% compared to the placebo group, which had a 2% increase in pain scores.

* A randomized controlled trial published in the American Journal of Medicine examined the use of 120 mg or 240 mg salicin or placebo in 210 patients with an low back pain. In the fourth and final week of the study, 39% of the group taking 240 mg salicin were pain-free for at least 5 days, compared to 21% in the 120 mg group and only 6% in the placebo group.

Bromelain is widely accepted as an effective treatment for pain and swelling caused by trauma (including sports injuries, surgery, and infections). Many studies have repeatedly demonstrated bromelain’s ability help the body recover from injury more quickly by preventing the accumulation of fibrin and potent inflammatory substances, such as leukotrienes

Turmeric

Curcumin, the compound that creates turmeric’s distinctive yellow color, has anti-inflammatory effects comparable to the drug prednisone. But unlike prednisone, curcumin is non-steroidal, so it has no negative side effects. Curcumin treats pain by stimulating production of nitric oxide, a pain reducing chemical messenger, and also suppresses pain through a mechanism similar to many drugs.

Devil’s Claw

Devil's claw appears to work in the same way as Cox-2 anti-inflammatories such as Celebrex and also produce changes in leukotrienes, another group of molecules involved in inflammation.

Devil's claw is a plant native to southern Africa. Its name comes from the small hooks on the plant's fruit. The active ingredients in devil's claw are believed to be iridoid glycosides called harpagosides, which are found in the secondary root.

A German study examined the use of devil's claw for slight to moderate back, neck, and shoulder muscle tension and pain. In the 4-week study, 31 people took 480 mg twice a day and 32 people took a placebo. The results showed there was a significant reduction in pain in the people taking devil's claw compared to the placebo group.

A study published in the journal Rheumatology compared a devil's claw extract providing 60 mg harpagosides a day and and 12.5 mg a day of the anti-inflammatory Vioxx (now off the market) for 6 weeks in 79 patients with an acute exacerbation of low back pain. Devil's claw was as effective as Vioxx in reducing pain.

A study published in the journal Joint Bone Spine compared six 435 mg capsules of powdered devil's claw extract a day (which provides about 60 mg per day of harpagosides) with 100 mg a day of a European osteoarthritis drug called diacerhein in 122 patients with osteoarthritis of the knee or hip. After four months, devil's claw was as effective as the diacerhein at relieving pain, improving mobility, and reducing the need for back-up medication (such as anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs).

In a European Journal of Anesthesiology 4-week study, 197 people with back pain rated at 5/10 or higher on a pain scale received a standardized daily dose of 50 mg or 100 mg harpagosides or placebo. Devil's claw seemed to reduce pain more than placebo.

Everyone’s body and back is different. Your results will vary depending on you and how your body responds to Back Fx. Some people may have their back problems eliminated while others may have a substantial decrease in problems. Approximately 5% of people get minimal results.

Each bottle contains 60 capsules, which is a 30 day supply.

i.  How often should I take Back Fx?
